STEP 1: UPDATE BIOS
It is strongly recommended that you ensure each system has the latest BIOS level applied, and the default or optimized settings applied before beginning the installation process.

STEP 2: INSTALL WINDOWS 8.1
The Windows ® 8.1 installation process fully supports the Toshiba SurePOS 700 4900-x85, x45. You do not have to make any special considerations when installing the operating system. Installing Windows 8.1 with a USB or CD/DVD does not require any modifications in order to install and use the operating system.

Configuring BIOS setup for Windows 8.1
To configure BIOS setup for a Windows 8.1 operating system, complete the following steps:
1. Power on the system and press DEL during POST to enter BIOS setup.
2. Enter the Advanced Boot Features menu.
3. Under the Boot Menu selections, make the following changes:
  • First Boot = USB CD/DVD
  • Second Boot = HDD

Installing the Windows 8.1 operating system
1. Attach an external USB CD/DVD drive to the system.
2. Insert the Windows 8.1 DVD into the drive and power on the system. During the operating system installation, a screen prompting you for the location to install the operating system and the SSD/HDD partition table is displayed.
4. Install the required drivers and patches for the operating system.
5. Follow the prompts until Windows 8.1 setup is complete.

STEP 3: UPDATE DRIVERS
The Toshiba SurePOS 700 contains some components that need specialized drivers in order to function properly. The following drivers must be installed. Reboot the system between each driver installation.

You can find the latest supported drivers for the Toshiba SurePOS 700 at the Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions support site at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/dlsearch.wss?rs=219&r=30&q=DWN4900-7x5. This is the only supported source of drivers for the Toshiba SurePOS 700 4900 x85, x45.

Install the following drivers
  • Audio driver
  • Video Driver
  • LAN driver (x85 only)
  • Chipset driver
  • Management Engine driver
  • PCI-E serial driver
  • RAID/AHCI driver (x85 only)
  • Windows Operating System Patches – Visit the Microsoft Windows Update support site for the latest patches at windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Attention: Failing to install all of the required drivers might have an adverse effect on the stability or performance of the system.

Known Limitations 4900-x85, x45
[1] TGCS 4820 touch is not supported on the 4900-x85, x45 in Windows 8.1 64-bit at this time. Support will follow in 2H14.
[2] SurePOS 700 4900-x85, x45 GFX driver does not support WDDM 1.3 features or optimization's. 4900-x85, x45 only supports WDDM 1.2. WDDM 1.3 features are further explained here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn265512(v=vs.85).aspx. This link details more information about the differences between WDDM 1.2 and WDDM 1.3 http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-033838.htm
[3] It is recommended to use a monitor that supports at least 1024x768 resolution. TGCS 12 in. 4820 displays support a max. resolution of 800x600 so customer should expect to see a degraded visual experience in Windows 8.1 with these monitors. User will also see an "out-of-range" error message during Win 8.1 installation with a 12' monitor because the display does not support Win 8.1 native resolution of 1024x768. OS installation will continue to complete successfully in this situation however.
[4] User may experience glitches with video in VC1 1080p, H264 1080p 30 fps, or H264 1080p 24fps formats due to system not supporting WDDM 1.3.
[5] 4900-x45 does not support WOL from S5 in Windows 8.1. 4900-x85 does not have this limitation.
[6] If a USB keyboard attached to the system unit, do not press keys at the Win 8.1 OS boot logo screen. This can cause a BSOD
