This readme tells you how to install networking driver support for Windows and DOS on 4694-xx7 & SurePOS 300 POSTs.

IBM(R) 4694 SurePOS(TM) Terminal September 28, 2001

National Semiconductor(R) Ethernet Controller DP83815 Device Driver for
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, Windows NT(R),
and DOS.


What This Readme Does
This readme provides instructions for installing the network
device driver for the SurePos 4694 on Windows 98/2000/NT and DOS
for the following 4694 POS Systems:

- 4694 207, 247
- 4694 307, 347

To determine if you should update the Network device driver, refer to the
"Summary of Changes" section.

To update the network driver, refer to the "Installation Instructions"
section.

Windows Installation Instructions
Windows 98SE/2000
1. Boot Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and place the Windows 98 SE CD
in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Extract the drivers onto a floppy diskettes root directory
3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
4. Double-click the System icon and select the Device Manager tab.
(for Windows 2000 Select the Hardware tab, then Select the Device
manager button).
5. For a fresh install click Other devices/PCI ethernet controller
For an update click Network Adapters/National Semiconductor Corp. DP83815...
6. Select the Properties button.
7. Click the Driver tab
8. Click the Update Driver button.
9. Click the Next button.
10. Select "Search for a better driver..." and Click the Next button.
11. Select " Specify a location" and enter A: in the location box
12. Click the Next button.
13. Click the Next button.
14. Specify the location of the device drivers (i.e A:), Select OK.
15: Select the Finish button.
16: Select the Yes button to restart your computer.

Windows NT
1. Extract the drivers onto a floppy diskettes root directory.
2. Start installation process for Windows NT 4.0. When prompted to select an
adapter from a menu to run with Windows NT 4.0 software select
"Have a disk " and press Enter.
3. At the next menu, "Insert the manufacturer's driver diskette", insert the
diskette created in step 1 into drive A: and type in the path of the driver
or select the default (A:\).
4. Complete the installation of Windows NT 4.0.

Note: If NT is already installed

2. Boot Windows NT
3. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
4. Select Protocols, remove protocols
5. Select Adapters, remove the DP83815 Adapter driver.
6. Shutdown and Restart the 4694-xx7
7. Select the " Control Panel " from the Desktop.
8. Select the " Network Icon ".
9. Select " Add "
10. Select " Adapter"
11. Select " Add "
12. Select "Have a disk " press Enter.
13. At the next menu, "Insert the manufacturer's driver diskette", insert the
diskette created in step 1 into drive A: and type in the path of the
driver: A:\
14. Complete the installation for adding an adapter to Windows NT 4.0.

Determining which Device Driver version is installed
Windows 98SE/NT/2000
1. Start Windows 98SE/NT/2000
2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
3. Double-click the System icon.
4. Click the Settings tab.
5. Expand the Network Adapter icon
6. Select National Semiconductor Corp. DP83815...
7. Click Properties button
8. Click the Driver tab
9. Click the Driver File Details button
10. Locate and Select DP83815.SYS, read File Version:
For example, 5.00.115.0
