Linear Drivers and Non Linear Drivers

Use the appropriate linear and/or non-linear drivers on 4693-3W1 and 4693-741 models. Use linear drivers on 4695-211 integrated models. Use non linear drivers on 4695-012 distributed models. See the appropriate support page for these files.

The linear drivers are not supported on 4695 distributed machines. Linear drivers (which are faster) require a machine with a local bus or a PCI bus which is the case for the 4695 integrated models. All of the 4695 distributed terminals use the ISA bus. The ISA bus doesn't have enough address lines to support linear addresses. Therefore use the non-linear drivers on all 4695 distributed models. Non-linear drivers will work on 4695 integrated models also but the linear drivers are strongly preferred.

    A 9.5" color passive video display passive LCD and touch head. Maximum VRAM is 512 KB. Uses Chips and Technologies 65535 Video Controller chip. This unit requires non-linear video drivers.
  • Integrated 4695 Model 201
    A controller/terminal with a 10.4" passive monochrome LCD touch screen, a 486DX2 or 5x86C 100 MHz processor, two RS232 ports, one parallel port, two cash drawer ports, ethernet 10BASE-T, one MSR connector, Serial I/O satellite port, vga video display port, 2x20 display port, and up to two PCMCIA cards. Some models have Chips and Technologies 65535 Video Chip and no capability to have more than 512 KB VRAM. Later models made with 65540 or 65545 video chip and ability to expand up to 1 MB VRAM. The later models work well with linear video drivers.
  • Integrated 4695 Model 211
    A controller/terminal with a 10.4" passive color LCD, a 486DX2 or 5x86C 100 MHz processor, two RS232 ports, one parallel port, two cash drawer ports, ethernet 10BASE-T, one MSR connector, Serial I/O satellite port, vga video display port, 2x20 display port, and up to two PCMCIA cards. Some models have Chips and Technologies 65535 Video Chip and no capability to have more than 512 KB VRAM. Later models made with 65540 or 65545 video chip and ability to expand up to 1 MB VRAM. The later models work well with linear video drivers.
      • 4695-211 machines with serial number Cxxxx have C&T video chip set 65535.
      • 4695-211 machines with serial number D0000 to D5425 have C&T video chip set 65540.
      • 4695-211 machines with serial number D5425 or higher have C&T video chip set 65545.

  • 4693 Model 741/3W1
    A controller/terminal with a CRT using the micro channel architecture. Use the appropriate linear and/or non-linear video driver when a CRT is attached. If a distributed flat panel displays is attached, it must use the non-linear video drivers.


4694 (Cirrus Logic) Video Chip Set Support



To obtain the Cirrus Logic video driver necessary to support the 4694 for most operating systems do the following:

First determine the specific Cirrus Logic (only) video chip set used in your model of 4694.

  1. Download the Cirrus video chip ID program. Click here to start this download.
  2. Run this program to identify the Cirrus Logic video chip set ID used in your model 4694.
  3. Refer to the 4694 model/video chip set cross reference chart below for additional information.

Then visit the ISD download page (Click [I Agree] > Select chip set) to get the video driver that supports your model 4694.

Note: Cirrus Logic is the video driver provider for the 4694, however do not contact Cirrus Logic for video driver support. If you have problems using Cirrus Logic video drivers on a 4694 supported operating system, contact IBM for support.
