IO21591: 4800-7X3 BIOS DOESN'T FLASH BIOS IF BOOT IS FROM HDD

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • cmvc 24979.1
ASM to an OS level that includes a new level of BIOS for the
    terminal
    and reboot the controller(s).
    Power on two 723 systems.
The 723 system without the hard drive recognizes the new OS
    level and flashes.
The 723 system with the hard drive, continues to boot from the
    hard drive,
it never switches to PXE, therefore it never flashes the BIOS.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The OS should detect that the OS level has changed and trigger a
    PXE load.
The current assumption is that an ASM would cause a cold boot as
    a result of
the enhanced layer changing, but that may not always be the
    case.

Problem conclusion

  • Add the product control file to the "load trigger" file. This
    would force a
    cold boot on each ASM.
