IO08718: NETWORK ISSUES WHEN HD BOOTING 4694-347 PMR36220 NSR10391044651

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The customer notices network problems when they boot from the
harddrive, but when they PXE boot everything is fine. The did a
little digging and found the no_cable_magic option is being used
on the disknetboot image (stage4.sh) and it's not being used on
    the base images.

Local fix

  • reload natsemi network module with no_cable_magic=1 option.

Problem summary

  • Network problems are sometimes seen when using the natsemi
network card on a POS terminal that booted from the hard disk,
especially if using long ethernet cables. Adding
"no_cable_magic=1" to the kernel command line is the fix for
this issue, but it's not obvious as how to do this.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix
