AF/Operator versus OMEGACENTER Gateway

Most people refer to the product as "AF/Operator".

But in reality there are 2 separate pieces/FMIDs:

1. AKOG340: OMEGACENTER Gateway. This is the base component of the product. It's the code that traps WTOs and CMDs, runs your REXX automation, interfaces with other products, etc.

Everyone MUST have this OMEGACENTER Gateway (AKOG340) component. You can't run without it.

2. AKAO340: AF/Operator. This is actually an optional component. The AF/Operator (AKAO340) code is for the most part the RSM, the Started Task Manager application, along with the ISPF interface and a few tools.

Some people use this, many don't. In fact, many people are only licensed for OMEGACENTER Gateway.

So, you may or may not have the AKAO340 FMID, but you definitely have the AKOG340 (OMEGACENTER Gateway) FMID.

There are both AF/Operator and OMEGACENTER Gateway manuals, but for the most part they are identical. It's simply a matter of what type of license you have. However, there is ONE additional AF/Operator manual, the 'AF/Operator User Interface Guide'. That is the manual for the RSM, the main piece of AKAO340.

You'll also notice that the vast majority of PTFs that you need to apply to your 'AF/Operator' product are OMEGACENTER Gateway (FMID AKOG340) PTFs. There's a much smaller number of AKAO340 PTFs, which you may or may not need.
