The IBM XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX, Runtime Environment and Utilities contains two packages: Runtime Environment and Utilities.
Runtime Environment
If you need to run an application developed using the IBM XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX compiler, and if you do not have the compiler installed, then you will need to install the Runtime Environment package. The Download Package section below has a link to the Runtime Environment package xlcpp.rte.8.0.0.aix.<level>.tar.Z which contains the following files:

Post-release note: One issue affecting backward compatibility was identified in this Runtime release: APAR IY82627. IBM recommends that you install April 2006 IBM C++ Runtime Environment Components for AIX or later in order to apply fixes for those APARs.Utilities
Depending on your application, you may also need to install the Utilities package. The Utilities package contains files that may be required by some third-party applications. Only download and install the Utilities package if instructed by your application providers. The Download Package section below has a link to the Utilities package xlcpp.util.8.0.0.aix..tar.Z which contains the following filesets:

The IBM XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX, Runtime Environment and Utilities is to be used only with applications developed with IBM XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX. You may not use any part of this software with other applications or programs. Prerequisites
IBM XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX, Runtime Environment and Utilities requires AIX 5L with the following level of the bos.rte.libc fileset (depending on your AIX version):
The C++ Runtime Environment for AIX is not supported as a stand-alone software product.
Support for questions and problems relating to installation of the C++ Runtime Environment is available as part of AIX Software Maintenance (SWMA).
If you suspect a problem with the C++ Runtime Environment while using it with a third-party application, contact your application provider for support.
Full support (installation, defect support and general questions) for the C++ Runtime Environment is available with the software maintenance agreement for the XL C++ Compilers. A suitable test case is required for defect support; click here for details.
