Increased competition and significant cost pressures are having a profound effect on the networks, tools, and platforms utilised by communication service providers. To be successful, communication service providers must rapidly deploy sophisticated next-generation networks (NGN) and services while moving to lower cost infrastructures.
IBM® now offers IBM Tivoli® Netcool® Performance Manager for Wireless v9.2, a component of IBM Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager v1.2 , on Red Hat Linux® using industry-standard x86_64 servers as part of a scalable, robust, and cost-effective solution to manage the performance of these complex multi-vendor and mulit-technology networks. Recent benchmark testing at the IBM Labs in Cork, Ireland, demonstrated the remarkable performance and scalability of Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager using a distributed Red Hat Linux environment comprising of two IBM x3950 M2 systems, an IBM BladeCenter H chassis with 4 IBM HS21XM blade servers, and an IBM DS4700 SAN storage system.
Some of the benchmark findings included:
- Distributed architecture can dramatically reduce CPU usage in database server thus reducing CapEx
- Faster and more predictable data loading times using new Java-based loaders
- Demonstrated scalability up to 120 GB (90k cells) of daily tablespace size which is a principle driver in hardware sizing requirements
- Incredible flexibility in hardware configuration and scalability options when using IBM BladeCenter and IBM System x family of servers
