Error description

  • Messages arriving from the Tape Manager TMTMM catalog
machine may be lost on the TMCMM command exit machine
when the sub-command exec SUBCMM is called from the
customer command exit exec EUMCMD. The failure occurs
when messages from the TMTMM machine arrive at the
TMCMM machine after a sub-command has been issued
and before the sub-command completes, which is normally
a very narrow window. A command timeout error can occur
on the TMTMM machine when a command sent to the
TMCMM machine is lost due to the error. The failure may
be masked if the CMDEXIT settings permit the execution
of a command when a command exit timeout occurs. Note
that this condition does not affect customers that execute
the EUMCMD exec within the TMTMM machine since
sub-commands cannot be executed from the EUMCMD
    command exit in that case.

Local fix

  • The CMDEXIT settings can be set to allow the execution
of commands that timeout after being sent to the command
exit service machine. Consideration should be given to
operational and security considerations before taking this
approach as it will essentially bypass the command exit
processing for any command that times out.
