  • Itanium 2 processor

  • Intel® Pentium® at 500 MHz or faster, AMD Opteron or Intel EM64T (32-bit kernel support only)
  • Minimum 995 MB free disk space for installation (includes SDK)
  • Minimum 512 MB of physical memory; 1GB recommended
  • CD-ROM drive

For Linux on AMD Opteron and Intel EM64T (64-bit WebSphere Application Server):
  • AMD Opteron and Intel EM64T (64-bit kernel support only)
  • Minimum 995 MB free disk space for installation (includes SDK)

For Linux on S/390® and zSeries® (31-bit and 64-bit WebSphere Application Server):
  • G5, G6, or MP3000 processors (31-bit kernel support only, supported for certain Linux distributions only) (Linux server site)
  • zSeries processors (31-bit kernel support, supported for certain Linux distributions only, or 64-bit kernel support)

    • Minimum 512 MB of physical memory; 1 GB recommended for 32-bit WebSphere Application Server, and Minimum 1 GB physical memory recommended for 64-bit WebSphere Application Server

  • Solaris compatible SPARC processor at 440 MHz, or faster

For Sun Solaris on x64 (32-bit WebSphere Application Server):
  • AMD Opteron or Intel EM64T

For Windows® Server 2000 and 2003 (32-bit WebSphere Application Server):

WebSphere Edge Components 6.0.2


For AIX (32-bit WebSphere Edge Components on 32-bit or 64-bit kernel):

  • Power family processors
  • Minimum 128 MB free disk space for installation of Load Balancer
  • Minimum 50 MB free disk space for installation of Caching Proxy
  • Free disk space for disk caching for Caching Proxy: Depends on the size and number of files that users retrieve from Web servers. Larger caches generally have higher cache access rates. Suggested minimum values are the same as for memory caching.
  • Free disk space for paging for Caching Proxy: A minimum of twice the amount of RAM.
  • RAM: 128 MB minimum; however, greater amounts yield better performance.
  • For Caching Proxy, LC__FASTMSG environment variable: If you are running the Caching Proxy in a non-English language environment, edit the /etc/environment file to set the LC__FASTMSG environment variable to the value false. (Note the two underscores in the name.)
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Ethernet Network Interface Card. The implementation of mulit-port NICs vary from vendor to vendor and suppot for some multi-port NICs may be limited. Fault Tolerance (Mode 2) and port aggregation (Mode 3) are unsupported.
  • For Load Balancer Cisco CSS Controller Component, you must have an installed and configured Cisco CSS 11000 series content services switch with MIB level 7.3 or earlier
  • For Load Balancer Nortel Alteon Controller Component, you must have an installed and configured Nortel Alteon Web Switch. The Web switch hardware platforms are AD3, AD4, 180e, 184, and the layer 4/7 blade for the Passport 8600. Web OS version 9 or 10 is the supported software for the Nortel Alteon Web Switch family
  • For Caching Proxy, the cryptographic hardware card Rainbow CryptoSwift Accelerator can be used.
  • Dynamic caching is supported only in conjunction with WebSphere Application Server versions 4, 5, and 6 and Caching Proxy
