Error description

  • An exception occured while the activity service
    unmarshalled an inbound request on which a work area had been
    propagated.  The work area was incorrectly left on the thread
    after the request has finished processing.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An exception during unmarshalling of    *
    *                      an imported activity resulted in the    *
    *                      activity service datastructures         *
    *                      becoming corrupt.                       *
    ****************************************************************

    APAR PM71736 caused a regression to the Activity Service that
    had been previously fixed by APAR PM12067.
    When importing an activity context a NullPointerException
    occurred when the context was passed to WorkArea for
    unmarshalling. This resulted in the Activity Service data
    structures becoming corrupt.
    The root cause of the corruption was that the Activity Service
    Interceptor importing the WorkArea context was not able to
    handle the exception correctly, resulting in a partially
    initialized activity context hierarchy. This meant that the
    activity service was not able to clean up the thread correctly
    when the subsequent Activity Service interceptor was called to
    handle the return of the exception.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The changes made under the regressed APAR PM12067 have been
    reinstated and the Activity Service correctly handles the
    NullPointerException when calling the WorkArea Service for
    unmarshalling
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.33, 8.0.0.9 and 8.5.5.2.  Please refer to the
