Error description

  • When any part of the Security header contains a Nonce element,
the EncodingType attribute is required on that element. The
WS-Security runtime is not including the EncodingType
    attribute on Nonce elements.

    *                  APAR.                                       *
    ****************************************************************
According to Basic Security Profile Version 1.1 R4220, any
Nonce element in a SOAP Security header must include an
EncodingType attribute. Some 3rd party WS-Security runtimes
require that this attribute exist on the Nonce element, and
if it does not, they reject the SOAP message.
The WebSphere WS-Security runtime does not emit the
EncodingType attribute on the Nonce element. Because of this,
it is unable to interoperate with some 3rd party WS-Security
runtimes when a Nonce element is required.

Problem conclusion

  • The following custom property is added to the WebSphere
WS-Security runtime to indicate that an EncodingType attribute
should be added to Nonce elements. When this custom property
is set to true, the EncodingType attribute will be added to
all Nonce elements in the SOAP Security header.

    com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.nonce.includeEncodingType

Valid values for this property are true and false and defaults
to false. This property is a WS-Security custom property and is
specified in the WS-Security bindings in the following
    locations:

"Outbound Custom Properties" or "Inbound and Outbound Custom
    Properties".

Refer to the following information center page for more
information on how to set WS-Security custom properties:

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 7.0.0.29, 8.0.0.6, and 8.5.0.2. Please refer to the
