PM75102: THREADS UNEXPECTEDLY EXHAUST THE THREAD POOL LEADING TO PERMANENT HANG

Error description

This apar is related to PM48558

Threads that unexpectly cease can cause the thread pool's
counter of available threads to zero leading to permanent
hang. This state can result in an insufficient number of
threads being created to handle incoming work and lead to
performance issues.

The application server indicates an alarm thread is hung, when
in fact, the alarm thread has actually terminated.  If an
alarm handler provided by an end-user throws an exception, the
application server does not properly process the exception and
allows the thread to terminate.  The server does not replace
these alarm threads and eventually fails to deliver alarm
behaviors.

Problem conclusion

Apply APAR PM75102 to prevent the application server from
terminating alarm threads on which alarm handler classes
are running and have thrown an exception.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.0.2, 8.0.0.6, 7.0.0.27, and 6.1.0.47.  Please
