Error description

  • The customer specified the log directory as ${SERVER_LOG_ROOT}.
    When the customer uses this websphere variable in -Xdump option
    to get javacores, WebSphere Application Server could not
    understand the variable correctly.

    -Xdump:snap:events=gpf+abort,label=${SERVER_LOG_ROOT}/dump/Snap.
    %Y%m%d.%H%M%S.%pid.%seq.trc,range=1..4,priority=500,request=seri

    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM WebSphere Application Server *
    *                  versions 6.1 and higher.                    *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere variable references within *
    * -Xdump options specified as generic *
    * JVM arguments are not expanded. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    WebSphere variable references within a -Xdump option specified
    as a generic JVM argument are not expanded.
    Example:
    -
    Xdump:snap:events=gpf+abort,label=${SERVER_LOG_ROOT}/dump/Snap.
    %Y%m%d.%H%M%S.%pid.%seq.trc,range=1..4,priority=500,request=seri
    al.
    In the example, ${SERVER_LOG_ROOT} is a variable reference and
    should be expanded when the generic JVM argument is used.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was updated to expand WebSphere variable references
    in -Xdump option specifications.
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.47, 7.0.0.27, 8.0.0.6 and 8.5.0.2.
