APAR status
Closed as new function.
Error description
Previously we only decode the property password value for the Resource Environment Provider config object but not the Resource Environment Entry config object. This APAR was opened to enhance the code to decode all custom properties (J2EEResourceProperty) password values if they are encoded (in {xor}xxx format) in the resources.xml. To make sure the change does not break any existing customer scripts (some customers may have decoded the password values in scripts already or they want to keep the encoded values), we will introduce a new system property to decode all J2EEResourceProperty if the value is encoded when accessing the property via wsadmin (AdminConfig.showall() or AdminConfig.showAttribute()). Please note that this APAR will only resolve the decoding issue when using wsadmin or config service APIs to create resource custom properties. The fix will not apply to the admin console because the console does not use config service APIs to create or update J2EEResourceProperty (custom properties).

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Users can not view the encoded * * password value through wsadmin * * command after created a new custom * * property on the * * ResourceEnviornmentEntry and the * * property contained some password * * value. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A new system property "decodeJ2EEResourceProperty" is introduced that allows users to view an encoded property value through wsadmin command such as AdminConfig.showall() or AdminConfig.showAttribute(). If using wsadmin in connected mode, the system property needs to be set in the deployment manager or server connected by using AdminTask.setJVMSystemProperties command. If using wsadmin in local mode (conntype=NONE), the system property can be set via the wsadmin "javaoption" command option such as: wsadmin -conntype none -lang jython -javaoption "-DdecodeJ2EEResourceProperty=true"
Problem conclusion
Provide a new system property for user to specify in wsadmin or deployment manager to decode custom property if the property contains en encoded password value. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.27/8.0.0.6/8.5.0.2.
