APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
According to the Java 5 and 6 extension specifications: "The manifest for an application or optional package can specify one or more relative URLs referring to the JAR files and directories for the optional packages (and other libraries) that it needs." "Relative URLs not ending with '/' are assumed to refer to JAR files." WebSphere Application Server code does not appear to match this specification.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Directory entries in manifest * * classpaths produce warning messages * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Java allows jars to specify a dependent classpath in their manifests. Per the Java specification, these classpaths may include both JAR files and directories (provided that the directory entries have a closing slash). However, the WebSphere Application Server class loading framework did not identify directory entries and attempted to process them as jar files, resulting in warning messages (although there was no functional impact).
Problem conclusion
Support for directory entries was added to the manifest classpath processing. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.27, 8.0.0.6, and 8.5.0.2.
