Error description

  • If a SAMLAttribute object is created using an array of
    com.ibm.websphere.wssecurity.wssapi.XMLStructure instead of an
array of java.lang.String, when a SAML token is created using
the SAMLAttribute object, an error like the following occurs:

    com.ibm.websphere.wssecurity.wssapi.WSSException: CWSML6006E:
Only String or OMElement are allowed for marshalling.

    ****************************************************************
    If a com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.saml.data.SAMLAttribute object
is created using an array of
    com.ibm.websphere.wssecurity.wssapi.XMLStructure instead of an
array of java.lang.String, the SAMLAttribute object will be
created without error. However, when a SAML token is created
using a SAMLAttribute object created in this way, an error
similar to the following may occur:
    com.ibm.websphere.wssecurity.wssapi.WSSException: CWSML6006E:
Only String or OMElement are allowed for marshalling.

Following is the constructor definition for
    com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.saml.data.SAMLAttribute:
    SAMLAttribute(java.lang.String name,
    java.lang.String[] stringAttributeValue,
    com.ibm.websphere.wssecurity.wssapi.XMLStructure[]
    xmlAttributeValue,
    java.lang.String attributeNamespace,
    java.lang.String nameFormat,
    java.lang.String friendlyName)

For more information on creating a SAML token with a
    SAMLAttribute, see:

Problem conclusion

  • The marshal method in the implementation class for the
    com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.saml.data.SAMLAttribute
object is doing an instanceof an internal version of the
    OMStructure class (com.ibm.ws.wssecurity.wssapi.OMStructure)
    instead of the externalized one
    (com.ibm.wsspi.wssecurity.wssapi.OMStructure). Therefore,
when SAML token is created using the SAMLAttribute that is
created using the externalized version of OMStructure (which
is itself an instanceof XMLStructure), an error occurs.

The SAMLAttribute implementation class is updated to check for
the externalized OMStructure instead of the internal one.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.27, 8.0.0.5, 8.5.0.1. Please refer to the
