Error description
When calling the com.ibm.websphere.wsaddressing.EndpointReferenceManager API, or during processing of a WS-Notification message, a NullPointerException can occur. Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users of * * WS-Notification or the * * com.ibm.websphere.wsaddressing.EndpointRefe * * r * * enceManager API * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NullPointerException occurs when * * calling the EndpointReferenceManager * * API or during processing of a * * WS-Notification message. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The com.ibm.websphere.wsaddressing.EndpointReferenceManager.createEn dpointReference(QName serviceName, String endpointName) method generates a URI for the parameters specified that is valid in the environment in which it is executed. This process involves cross referencing the channel chain, virtual host and any security constraints in the web.xml deployment descriptor. In the case that a valid URI cannot be generated for the EndpointReference the EndpointData is not initialized. Subsequently a NullPointerException was thrown later in the code.
Problem conclusion
To prevent the NullPointerException from occuring, the code was changed to prevent the initial failure in resolving the URI for the EndpointReference. The code also changed so that a NullPointerException would not be thrown in the event that a valid URI could not be resolved. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.25, 8.0.0.5 and 8.5.0.1.
