APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Currently after service is applied on Z, the command
    clearClassCache.sh is not ran which could lead to stale cached
    classes being loaded when instead the new versions should be
    used.

    This can cause new changes to not be seen in the behavior of WAS
    after service is applied.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Java class files are cached after a PTF *
    *                      install or uninstall.                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    After having the config root upgraded on the first server start
    after applying or backing out a Fix Pack, cached class files
    could stick around causing the new class files to not be picked
    up by the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). This could cause the old
    behavior to still exist in the server until that cache is
    cleared and the new files are picked up.

Problem conclusion

  • To prevent this from occurring, the JVM cache will be cleared
    before the first server startup after applying or backing out a
    Fix Pack.

    APAR PM65837 is currently targeted for inclusion in
    WebSphere Application Server Fix Packs 7.0.0.25, 8.0.0.5, and
    8.5.0.1.
