Error description

  • FFDC files are not purged as expected using the default
    ExceptionFileMaximumAge setting in ffdc properties.

    ffdcRun.properties
    - ExceptionFileMaximumAge=7
    ffdcStart.properties
    - no entry of ExceptionFileMaximumAge

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: FFDC files are not purged as expected *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When the ExceptionFileMaximumAge is set to 7 and as clean up is
checked during FFDC incident creation, incident and summary
files that are older than 7 (based on the value of
ExceptionFileMaxiumumAge) should be removed. The problem is
that the files are not being cleaned up if the server is
restarted on a daily basis because the lowest possible value of
DaysBetweenCleanup, used to determine when FFDC files need to
    be cleaned, is 1 day.

Problem conclusion

  • An additional check has been added to ensure that the first
time the cleanup time is calculated, files' age is also
checked against ExceptionFileMaximum value to determine if
removal is needed.Note that in all cases, a clean up check
will only occur during FFDC incident occurrence.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 7.0.0.27, 8.0.0.5, and 8.5.0.1. Please refer to the
