    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The follow exception occurs when using versions MyFaces 2.0
JSF greater than 2.0.7 with WebSphere Application Server
    Version 7.0:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
    org.apache.myfaces.shared_impl.util.ClassUtils

    com.ibm.ws.jsf.config.annotation.WebSphere20LifecycleProviderFac
    tory.getLifecycleProvider(WebSphere20LifecycleProviderFactory.ja
    va:34)

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere Application Server added a custom annotation
provider to provide built in injection engine support for
MyFaces 2.0.8+. The provider code is packaged in a new jar
    file called WebSphere-MyFaces208-annotation-provider.jar,
    which is located in the
    <WAS_HOME>/optionalLibraries/IBM/JSFProviders/2.0.8 directory.

IBM does not provide a supported JSF 2.0 implementation for
use with WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0,
however the Annotation provider for the WebSphere Application
Server injection and scanning that is necessary for using
MyFaces 2.0 JSF is fully supported on tested levels of
MyFaces. IBM will address any issues with the scanning and
injection support in WebSphere Application Server if it is
determine that it is not performing as per the specification.
Any problems with MyFaces 2.0 JSF will need to be worked with
the MyFaces Open Source Community: http://myfaces.apache.org/ .

The current support has been tested with MyFaces 2.0.14.
Tested levels and configuration instructions can be found at
