Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 and V8.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Many connections are seen with the * * status of "CLOSE_WAIT" and are not * * closed until the server is restarted. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Connections to the SOAP port are not closed and remain in 'CLOSE_WAIT' state. There may be some FFDC files written for AdminClient ConnectionNotAvailable. After enabling SOAP traces, traces indicated that an SSLHandshakeException had occurred. [3/1/12 13:23:01:366 CET] 0000009b WSX509TrustMa E CWPKI0022E: SSL HANDSHAKE FAILURE: A signer with SubjectDN "CN=<blah>, OU=<blah>, OU=<blah>, O=IBM, C=US" was sent from target host:port "<ip addr>:<soap port>". The signer may need to be added to local trust store "/opt/IBM/WebSphere/wp_profile/config/cells/<cellname>/trust.p12 " located in SSL configuration alias "NodeDefaultSSLSettings" loaded from SSL configuration file "security.xml". The extended error message from the SSL handshake exception is: "PKIX path building failed: java.security.cert.CertPathBuilderException: PKIXCertPathBuilderImpl could not build a valid CertPath.; internal cause is: java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: The certificate issued by CN=<blah>, OU=Root Certificate, OU=<blah>, OU=<blah>, O=IBM, C=US is not trusted; internal cause is: java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: Certificate chaining error".
Problem conclusion
The SOAP code was modified to close the socket connection if an exception occurs during the SSL Handshake. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 7.0.0.25 and 8.0.0.4.
