Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED:  All users of IBM WebSphere Application      *
    *                  Server using dynacache with disk offload    *
    *                  and cached objects with hundreds of         *
    *                  dependency IDs.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Determining if a cache id exists on     *
    *                      disk is a performance bottleneck.       *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Dynacache maintains a table of dependency IDs that contains a
    list of associated cache IDs.  Dynacache is using a linear
    search to find a cache id in the table.  This is inefficient
    and costly.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Dynacache has changed how it maintains its table mapping of
    dependency IDs to cache IDs to improve the searching of a
    cache ID.
    
    A new JVM custom property is being introduced to activate this
    new method of searching for a cache ID on disk.  Using this
    feature does have a slight increase in the heap usage of
    dynacache.
    
    To activate this feature define and set to true the following
    property:
    com.ibm.ws.cache.CacheConfig.htodDependencyCacheIndexEnabled
    
    Click Servers > Server Types > WebSphere application servers >
    server_name, and then, under Server Infrastructure, click Java
    and process management > Process definition > Java virtual
    machine > Custom properties
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.25, 8.0.0.4 and 8.5.0.1.  Please refer to the
