Error description

  • SMF120 Subtype 9 (new in V7) includes field SM1209ES.  This
    field is similar to SMF120 Subtype 1 SM120CRE. It contains
    identity string - user credential the request is running under.
    For some SMF120.9 records, the field might be blank, while for
    the same exact request, SMF120.1 records show identity.

    This apar will fix a problem in WebSphere code that sometimes
    prevents a user from being written to SMF 120.9 records.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V7.0 and V8.0 for z/OS who are using *
    * SMF to log record type 120.9. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: User IDs are not always recorded in *
    *                      the SMF 120.9 records.                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    There are up to three user IDs that can be recorded in the SMF
    120.9 record. However, due to incorrect program logic, the
    IDs were only recorded if all three were valid non-empty
    strings.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was corrected to properly record any of the three
    user IDs that are valid non-empty strings.

    APAR PM57383 is currently targeted for inclusion in
    Fix Pack 7.0.0.23 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0 and Fix
    Pack 8.0.0.4 of WebSphere Application Server V8.0.
