Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server                                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Virtual member manager (VMM) is unable *
    * to find a user via UserRegistry calls *
    * if the user name contains the equal *
    *                      '='symbol                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Whenever a WebSphere Applicaiton Server UserRegistry method is
    called and passed a user name containing an equal '=' sign,
    then VMM used to treat the user name property as a Distinguish
    Name. As a result, the WASUserRegistry method failed to find
    the user.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix involved setting a custom property called
    "allowDNPrincipalNameAsLiteral" to "true" which allowed VMM to
    treat the equal sign '=' as a literal. In order to set this
    property, you need to manually update the security.xml file
    and add the following line inside the UserRegistry tag of type
    WIMUserRegistry :
     <properties xmi:id="Property_1285306873141"
    name="com.ibm.ws.wim.registry.allowDNPrincipalNameAsLiteral"
    value="true"/>

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.45, 7.0.0.23, and 8.0.0.4. Please refer to the
