Deployment descriptors for Java Enterprise Edition
applications and modules are XML documents. Elements within
these resources may be specified with a variety of values.
For example:
...
<servlet>com.ibm.TestServlet</servlet>
...
StringIndexOutOfBoundsException's occur during processing
of the deployment descriptor when the value of these XML
elements contains 1 or more spaces but is otherwise empty.
...
<init-param>   </init-param>
...

Problem conclusion

The module responsible for processing these values has
been updated to properly handle this scenario. A work-around
is for deployment descriptors to be updated to remove these
elements or provide additional non-whitespace characters.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 6.1.0.43, 7.0.0.23, and 8.0.0.3.  Please refer to the
