APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Application deployed on WebSphere Application server will be
extracted under installedApps folder by default. Sometimes the
expansion might fail due to permission issue in the
installedApps folder or space issue or any other unexpected
    issue.

There are ways to find the application expansion failure using
the wsadmin isAppReady and getDeployStatus but there is no such
    option using the administrative console.

In case of expansion failure administrative console should throw
a message during the application start. It may not be possible
to show the live status of the application expansion as we see
in the wsadmin getdeployStatus but atleast it should throw a
    message during the startup.

We may see similar exception in the nodeagent SystemOut.log
    file.

ADMA7101E: An unexpected error occurred for the EAR expansion
process. The enterprise archive (EAR) file
    cells/dmgrCell/applications/DefaultApplication.ear/DefaultApplic
ation.ear is not extracted in the following paths
    /opt/IBM/WebSphere7/AppServer/profiles/test1/installedApps/
    dmgrCell/DefaultApplication.ear. On node: TestNode

Local fix

  • use wsadmin getDeployStatus command.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When updating an application and an *
    * expansion failure occurs, the console *
    * displays an error that the node is *
    *                      not synched.                            *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The console displays the wrong error when an expansion error
occurs after synchronization. When an application that is
updated has expansion errors, the console did not display the
correct error and tried to restart the application with the
    failure.

Problem conclusion

  • The console will not display an error that the expansion has
not completed or has failed. The console will only try to
start the application if no errors have been returned.
