  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When a JAX-WS client is using the polling or callback modes of
asynchronous operation, the number of concurrent requests (and
corresponding threads) that can be started is unlimited. It
is desired to be able to limit the number of requests
    concurrently being processed.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JAX-WS clients operating in *
    * asynchonous mode might start an *
    * excessive number of threads. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack containing this APAR and *
    * set the jvm property if thread limiting is *
    *                  needed.                                     *
    ****************************************************************
JAX-WS clients operating in asynchronous mode return control
to the caller as soon as the client web service method is
invoked, and then begin processing the request on a separate
background thread. In some scenarios it is desireable to
limit the number of background threads that can be running
    concurrently.

Problem conclusion

  • A new JVM property is introduced,
    jaxws.asyncClient.maxThreadPoolSize.

When set to an integer value, the number of concurrently
running request threads is limited to that value.

For more details on how to set the JVM property,
refer to the article "Java virtual machine custom properties"
in the Information Center for your WebSphere Application
    Server version and operating system.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 7.0.0.23 and 8.0.0.4 Please refer to the Recommended
