Error description
After migrating from WebSphere V6.1 to V7, when attempting to access the admin console from a web browser, user gets this error message: SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /ibm/console/ has not been defined. Migration is incorrectly determining the application server's name as the web server's name and uses those values to create the new profile on installation. This causes it to create a profile with the web server's name to be used as the application server. When the migration occurs, it matches the names and changes the app server back to a web server in the system files. The admin console (isclite) and filetransfer apps are not improperly mapped, but they do not get migrated. Since they were created to the incorrectly named server, that's where the will remain.
Local fix
Remove the conflicting web server from the WebSphere AppServer config from the level you are migrating from, and then rerun the migration job.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0 and V8.0. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The migration of IBM WebSphere * * Application Server identifies the web * * server name as the application server * * name. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Incorrect logic identifies the web server name as the application server name.
Problem conclusion
Code was modified to remove the logic that unnecessarily removes the application server name from the processing. APAR PM42174 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level 7.0.0.21 and 8.0.0.2 of WebSphere Application Server.
