  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • An application that connects to a Service Integration Bus
    Messaging Engine gets an OutOfMemoryError after some time. The
    amount of time it takes is directly proportional to the amount
    of messaging work the application does.

    A heapdump shows a leak of
    com.ibm.ws.sib.comms.client.ResourceInfo objects in a HashMap
    owned by
    com.ibm.ws.sib.comms.client.OptimizedSIXAResourceProxy.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: OutOfMemoryError caused by a leak of *
    * ResourceInfo objects in a map owned *
    *                      by OptimizedSIXAResourceProxy           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The problem is caused by repeated 'read-only' transactions. A
    'read-only' transaction occurs when a transaction is started
    but no message is sent or received.
    A ResourceInfo object is created when the transaction starts
    and added to a HashMap. When the transaction commits or rolls
    back, it is removed from the HashMap.
    However, if the transaction is read-only it is never removed
    from the HashMap and so is leaked. If this is done repeatedly,
    eventually an OutOfMemoryError results.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR fixes the problem by ensuring that if the
    transaction is 'read-only' then the ResourceInfo is still
    removed from the HashMap.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 7.0.0.21 and 8.0.0.3. Please refer to the Recommended
