  • Customer can not update shared library for their Business Level
    Application. In order to update the shared library, they have to
    restart the application server.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED:  All users of IBM WebSphere Application      *
    *                  Server V7.0 and V8.0 business level         *
    *                  application (BLAs) with shared libraries.   *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Shared library composition units in a   *
    *                      BLA require a server restart to         *
    *                      update.                                 *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Users attempting to update or restart a shared library
    composition unit (CU) in a business level application (BLA)
    currently must restart the server for the change to take
    effect.  Ideally, you should be able to update and restart a
    shared library CU by only restarting any CUs that depend on
    that shared library CU.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This fix enables you to update and restart shared library
    CUs without needing to restart the application server.
    
    To enable this fix, you must set the following system
    property for every application server JVM that contains shared
    library CUs:
    com.ibm.ws.runtime.enableRestartableCULibraries=true
    
    Please note that Java EE application CUs that depend on these
    shared libraries will not automatically be restarted.  So, in
    order to update/restart a shared library CU, you must:
    1) Stop all Java EE application CUs that depend on the shared
    library.
    2) Update or restart the shared library CU.
    3) Perform a node sync to copy the changes to all
    nodes/cluster members (if necessary).
    4) Restart all Java EE applications.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 8.0.0.2 and 7.0.0.21.  Please refer to the
