Error description

  • Duplicate entry of the tagdir tag will cause a translation error
    in WebSphere Application Server 7.0 even when the prefix being
    redefined is in the same namespace URI. According to the JSP2.1
    Specs:

    If a taglib directive is encountered in a standard syntax page
    that attempts to redefine a prefix that is already defined
    in the current scope (by a JSP segment in either syntax), a
    translation error must occur unless that prefix is being
    redefined to the same namespace URI.

    A translation error should not be thrown in this scenario.

Local fix

  • To allow taglib redefinitions for an app, you can either set
    the following JSP attribute:

    <jsp-attribute name="allowTaglibPrefixRedefinition"
    value="true"/>

    Or you can set a webcontainer custom property for the server
    (note this will affect all apps on the server):

    Admin Console -> Application servers -> (serverName) -> Web
    container -> Custom properties :

    com.ibm.wsspi.jsp.allowtaglibprefixredefinition=true

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A taglib directive that redefines a *
    * prefix that is already defined with *
    * the same namespace URI causes a *
    *                      translation error.                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The following translation error occurs when redefining a taglib
    directive:

    JSPG0240E: Attempt to redefine the prefix "test" to
    "urn:jsptagdir:/WEB-INF/tags/test", when it was already
    defined as
    "/WEB-INF/tags/test" in the current scope.

    An example of the redefinition that causes the error is:
    <%test.inc%>
    <%@taglib prefix="test" tagdir="/WEB-INF/tags/test" %>

    <%test.tag%>
    <%@include file="test.inc" %>
    <%@taglib prefix="test" tagdir="/WEB-INF/tags/test" %>

    There should be no error since the same URI is being used in
    both definitions of the "test" prefix: "/WEB-INF/tags/test".

Problem conclusion

  • The JSP container was updated to allow the redefinition of a
    prefix as long as they have the same URI.

    APAR PM38186 is currently targeted for inclusion in
    Service Level 7.0.0.19 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
