APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Memory exhaustion occurs when an SIBus subscribing application
takes long periods of time to consume persistent messages even
though the message has been written to the message store.

Local fix

  • No work around available.

Problem summary

    * held in memory even when the message *
    * has been stored in the message store. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When a persistent message is published and a local durable
subscriber is present but not in a state to receive the
message yet then the message is held in memory until the
subscriber can consume the message. If this is a long period
of time then a build up of messages in memory can occur
causing an out of memory error.

Problem conclusion

  • This APAR will ensure that any Assured Persistent message is
replaced with a soft reference version after the message is
stored in the messagestore. This ensures that if memory usage
becomes critical the JVM can garbage collect the message
without the risk of losing the message.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.21 and 8.0.0.1. Please refer to the Recommended
