Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    * Server using JAX-RPC or JAX-WS web services.
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An application that is directly *
    *                      manipulating XML might receive a        *
    *                      NullPointerException.                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack containing this APAR. *
    ****************************************************************
    Applications that call
    javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement.appendChild() or
    javax.xml.soap.SOAPElement.insertBefore() might
    encounter a NullPointerException after making these
    calls.

    If appendChild() or insertBefore() was called to insert an XML
    element from one document into another, under certain
    conditions the element could be incorrectly removed from the
    source document.

Problem conclusion

  • When appendChild() or insertBefore() are called to insert an
    XML element from one document into another, the element is no
    longer deleted from the source document.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 6.1.0.41, 7.0.0.19 and 8.0.0.1. Please refer to the
