Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server version *
    *                  7.0 and 8.0 users of ExtendedHandShake.     *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A 404 response returns even though *
    * the application server and resource *
    *                      are available.                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When the ExtendedHandShake option is enabled, the plugin sends
    a handshake request to check whether the application server is
    available before sending over the actual request. If the
    default host port of the application server is configured
    within certain port ranges, a 404 can be returned. It is
    because the WebContainer is using the wrong record from its
    virtual host mapping table.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebContainer code was modified to correct the order of the
    virtual host entries in its mapping table.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.19 and 8.0.0.1.
