Error description

  • The average CPU time computed in the SMF 120.x records was
    computed as type long but, using divison by an int.  This causes
    a loss of percision which can be significant.

    Average CPU time (SM120JMQ) in SMF 120 subtype 6 interval
    records is not accurate. Average CPU time (SM120WJ4) in SMF 120
    subtype 8 interval records is not accurate.
    SM120JMQ and SM120WJ4 are not accurate because the code is
    keeping a running average using integer addition and division.
    Losing the remainder each time the running average is
    recalculated causes the average CPU time to be inaccurate.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Changed the code to keep the total cpu time and divide once
    when the record is written.
    
    APAR PM35809 is currently targeted for inclusion in
    Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.39 of WebSphere
    Application Server V6.1.
