    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A parsing exception occurs when *
    * attempting to parse a time which *
    * occurs during the first daylight *
    * savings time (DST) hour. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When using the JSTL fmt:parseDate tag to parse a date and time
    which falls in the time frame of the daylight savings hours
    the following exception will be thrown:

    java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: "20070311 02:00:00
    AM"
    at java.text.DateFormat.parse(DateFormat.java:349)
    at
    org.apache.taglibs.standard.tag.common.fmt.ParseDateSupport.doEn

    at
    com.ibm._jsp._testDate._jspx_meth_fmt_parseDate_0(_jstlDate.java
    :123)
    at com.ibm._jsp._testDate._jspService(_jstlDate.java:86)
    ... 28 more

    An example of what would cause this exception is:

    <fmt:parseDate value="20070311 02:00:00 AM"
       var="myTestDate"
       type="date"
       pattern="yyyyMMdd HH:mm:ss a" />

Problem conclusion

  • The JSTL code packaged in WebSphere Application Server was
    modified to allow lenient parsing of the date when using the
    parseDate tag. To enable this new behavior, the following
    context parameter must be set to "true" in the application's
    web.xml file :
    com.ibm.ws.jstl.allowLenientDateParsing

    An example entry is:
    <context-param>
    <param-name>com.ibm.ws.jstl.allowLenientDateParsing</param-name>
    <param-value>true</param-value>
    </context-param>

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 7.0.0.19. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
