APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • PM06955 introduced a post install action needed to correct a
    permission error on some directories in our configuration HFS.
    This included generating a script named fixGroupPerms.sh. If
    some directories exist that have spaces in the pathnames, this
    script is incorrectly generated and will fail, causing the
    post install action to fail as well. PM06955 was included in
    7.0.0.13, so the problem will only happen after applying this
    maintenance level or later.

Local fix

  • Open the fixGroupPerms.sh script and repair it manually. This
    can be done by enclosing the path in quotes, or enclosing the
    part of the path in quotes that contained the space. For
    example, here's a sample of what the script might look like:
    .
    chmod g+w /WebSphere/V7R0/AppServer/profiles/default
                /installedApps/TRADECell/DayTrader
    chmod g+w 1.2.ear/web.war/welcomeImg.jsp
    .
    change this to:
    .
    chmod g+w /WebSphere/V7R0/AppServer/profiles/default
               /installedApps/TRADECell/
                'DayTrader 1.2.ear'/web.war/welcomeImg.jsp

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V7.0 on z/OS.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: fixGroupPerms.sh script contents are *
    * incorrect if directories contain *
    *                      spaces.                                 *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The fixGroupPerms.sh script is generated if, at server
    startup, the postinstaller runs and finds directories or files
    that do not have group write permission enabled. If the user
    has directories with spaces in them, the script will not be
    generated correctly and will fail if it is run.

Problem conclusion

  • The code that generates fixGroupPerms.sh was modified to
    correctly handle directories with spaces.

    APAR PM31522 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.17 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
