APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When creating SMF 120.9 user records via MDBs the first user
    record will be created successfully (RC=0 ADD_DATA_OK) but,
    subsequent user records will overwrite the existing record (RC=4
    ADD_DATA_REPLACED_DATA).

Local fix

  • Invoke SMF API via HTTP requests

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server for V7.0 for z/OS                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: SMF Activity User Data records are *
    * overwritten when produced from *
    *                      Message Driven Beans.                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When creating SMF Activity User Data records from a Message
    Driven Bean a return code of 4 is sometimes received
    indicating that the record already exists and is being
    overwritten. This is as a result of missing SMF code on
    the Message Driven Bean dispatch. Depending on whether an
    HTTP request previously created a SMF User Data record on
    the same thread, when the application code attempts to
    create an SMF User Data record from a Message Driven Bean
    it may receive a return code 20 indicating the record is
    being produced from a non-dispatch thread, or a return
    code 4 indicating a duplicate SMF User Data record. This
    error is produced from the java class named
    SmfEventInfrastructureImpl and method named
    addDataToSMF120Subtype9Record.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been changed to add the SMF Activity User Data
    pre and post dispatch routines to the Message Driven Bean
    dispatch processing.

    APAR PM31147 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
    Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.19 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
