Error description
Customer experienced Java OutOfMemory Errors on their WebSphere Application Server - Network Deployment edition V7.0.0.11; 64-bit environment; Operating System - AIX 5.3. Symptom was high CPU on the node due to excessive garbage collection and limited administrative capabilities during application deployments. Type of work space creator for this issue is WAS.channel.tcp: instances - with workspace id: anonymousNNNNNNNNNNNNN, for example, anonymous1288695549063. Admin console code passed a null session/workspaceId with the configservice.getAttribute call and those workspace creations consumed both dmgr memory and the disk space (wstemp directory). Workspace creation stack trace: Call stack info of createWorkSpace(prop), workspace id anonymous1288695549063: com.ibm.ws.sm.workspace.impl.WorkSpaceManagerImpl.getCallStack(W orkSpaceManagerImpl.java:551) com.ibm.ws.sm.workspace.impl.WorkSpaceManagerImpl.createWorkSpac e(WorkSpaceManagerImpl.java:142) com.ibm.ws.sm.workspace.impl.WorkSpaceManagerImpl.getWorkSpace(W orkSpaceManagerImpl.java:297) com.ibm.ws.sm.workspace.impl.WorkSpaceManagerImpl.getWorkSpace(W orkSpaceManagerImpl.java:235) com.ibm.ws.sm.workspace.impl.WorkSpaceManagerImpl.getWorkSpace(W orkSpaceManagerImpl.java:224) com.ibm.ws.management.configservice.WorkspaceHelper.getWorkspace (WorkspaceHelper.java:96) com.ibm.ws.management.configservice.WorkspaceHelper.getDocAccess or(WorkspaceHelper.java:304) com.ibm.ws.management.configservice.ConfigServiceImpl.getAttribu teBasic(ConfigServiceImpl.java:2436) com.ibm.ws.management.configservice.ConfigServiceImpl.getAttribu te(ConfigServiceImpl.java:2086) com.ibm.ws.management.configservice.ConfigServiceServerProxy$21. run(ConfigServiceServerProxy.java:857) com.ibm.ws.security.util.AccessController.doPrivileged(AccessCon troller.java:118) com.ibm.ws.management.configservice.ConfigServiceServerProxy.get Attribute(ConfigServiceServerProxy.java:848) com.ibm.ws.tcp.channel.commands.GetTCPEndPointCommand.getNamedEn dPoint(GetTCPEndPointCommand.java:105) com.ibm.ws.tcp.channel.commands.GetTCPEndPointCommand.execute(Ge tTCPEndPointCommand.java:84) com.ibm.ws.coregroup.bridge.commands.GetNamedTCPEndPointCommand. getNamedEndPoint(GetNamedTCPEndPointCommand.java:162) com.ibm.ws.coregroup.bridge.commands.GetNamedTCPEndPointCommand. execute(GetNamedTCPEndPointCommand.java:83) com.ibm.ws.console.coregroup.bridge.settings.utilities.CoreGroup BridgeSettingsUtils.addEndPoints(CoreGroupBridgeSettingsUtils.ja va:290) com.ibm.ws.console.coregroup.bridge.settings.utilities.CoreGroup BridgeSettingsUtils.addCGAPs(CoreGroupBridgeSettingsUtils.java:2 63) com.ibm.ws.console.coregroup.bridge.settings.utilities.CoreGroup BridgeSettingsUtils.createTopologyTree(CoreGroupBridgeSettingsUt ils.java:133) com.ibm.ws.console.coregroup.bridge.settings.CoreGroupBridgeSett ingsController.perform(CoreGroupBridgeSettingsController.java:20 6) org.apache.struts.tiles.TilesRequestProcessor.processTilesDefini tion(Unknown Source) org.apache.struts.tiles.TilesRequestProcessor.processForwardConf ig(Unknown Source) com.ibm.isclite.container.controller.InformationController.proce ssForwardConfig(InformationController.java:217) org.apache.struts.action.RequestProcessor.process(Unknown Source) org.apache.struts.action.ActionServlet.process(Unknown Source) org.apache.struts.action.ActionServlet.doGet(Unknown Source) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:718) javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:831) com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.servlet.ServletWrapper.service(ServletWr apper.java:1661) Problem recreated: Clicked on Servers -> Core Groups -> Core Group Bridge Settings. Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the core group bridge in IBM * * WebSphere Application Server V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Core group bridge leaks workspaces * * during certain configuration * * operations. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The core group bridge AdminTasks were not properly passing administrative sessions when listing eligible bridge interfaces. This resulted in a new administrative session being created each time bridge interfaces needed to be listed and caused a memory leak on the dmgr.
Problem conclusion
The current sessions are now passed to prevent new sessions from being created. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.17. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
