DefaultClassLoader @ 0xfa0dd8 ---------------------------------------------------------------- -------- ------------------------ WorkManagerImpl maintains a reference to a Commerce class (BaseWorkListener which implements commonj.work.WorkListener) even after the application from which the class belongs is stopped. This reference is not cleaned update/unregistered during application shutdown. This problem happened with WebSphere Commerce Server applications. The problem is not that the async beans are using too much memory. The problem is that this code maintain a live reference to an application class which prevents the application from being properly disposed (Garbage Collected) after it has been stopped. The AsynchBean code should not keep references to the application after the application is stopped. This APAR addresses a way to unregister the listener (BaseWorkListener)

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V6.1 and V7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The WorkManagerImpl of AsynchBean is * * indirectly causing an OutOfMemory * * error under heavy load. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The WorkManagerImpl is holding a live referecne to an application object even after the application is stopped. Therefore the application object which is holding onto a major chunk of jvm space is not getting Garbage Collected.
Problem conclusion
The problem is fixed after the code is modified such that all live references to the application objects are released. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.1.0.37 and 7.0.0.17.
