Error description

  • A WebSphere for z/OS Controller Region suffers performance
    degradation over several hours.
    GC cycles take longer and longer.
    Eventually the JVM hits OOM in the Java Heap with hundreds of
    these objects:
    "com.ibm.ISecurityLocalObjectCSIv2UtilityImpl.SessionManager"

    Just prior to the leak becoming visible, the controller region
    cut an FFDC record:

    Exception = java.lang.NullPointerException
    Source = com.ibm.ejs.util.am._Alarm.run
    probeid = 95
    Stack Dump = java.lang.NullPointerException

    WebSphere Application Server was not properly checking the key
    of the hashtable for null before making an attempt to retrieve
    the value for said key.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere Application Server has been modified to correctly
    check for null in this case.
