Error description

  • For WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment edition
    verion 7.0.0.7, on an EJB 3.0 build, a "<resource-ref>"
    element is not generated in the deployment descriptor.

    If the class name of a resource is not recognized, then the
    "<resource-ref>" element is not generated in the
    ejb-jar_merged.xml file. For example,

    @Resource(name = "MyResourceName", type =
    MyConnectionFactory.class, authenticationType =
    AuthenticationType.APPLICATION, shareable = false)

    If MyConnectionFactory.class is not recognized then you
    may not see the resource-ref element in the
    ejb-jar_merged.xml file.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V7.0 and V8.0                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A @Resource annotation, used to         *
    *                      define a connector reference,           *
    *                      results in a "resource-env-ref"         *
    * being created in the deployment *
    *                      descriptor.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The connector class referenced in the annotation is not
    recognized as a JCA connector factory because it is not one of
    the generic factory types, and does not extend any of those.
    As a result, a "resource-env-ref" element is generated in the
    deployment descriptor instead of a "resource-ref".

Problem conclusion

  • Annotation processing has been changed to recognize a class as
    connector factories if it implements a getConnection() method.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 7.0.0.19 and 8.0.0.2. Please refer to the Recommended
