PM20212: ATTEMPTING TO EDIT A WEB SERVER CONFIGURATION FILE WITH THE ADMINISTRATIVE CONSOLE RESULTS IN AN ERROR

Error description

Customer has defined a variable METCONTENT with value
c:/IBMHTTPServer7New/${CELLSHORTNAME} and another variable
called APP_CONTENT with value ${METCONTENT}/${APP_NAME}.
Please note that APP_NAME is also defined as another variable
and it has a value. Finally he formed variable APP_CONF with
value ${APP_CONTENT}/conf. He is using APP_CONF in the
Web Server configuration. When he clicks the "Edit" button for
configuration changes, they are getting the following error
message:
"A problem was encountered transferring the designated file.
Make sure the file exists and has correct access
permissions.websphere variable"

On the administrative console, under Web Servers >
webserver_name, pressing the Edit button next to "Configuration
file name" can result in the message:

"A problem was encountered transferring the designated file.
Make sure the file exists and has correct access permissions."

This can occur when variables are present in the path name
because of a code defect in variable expansion.

Problem conclusion

The defect in the variable expansion code was fixed.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.15.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
