Error description

  • The following error might occur when a JAX-WS service
    application starts:

WSWS7027E: JAX-WS Service Descriptions could not be
correctly built because of the following error:
    javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException:
WSWS7054E: The Web Services Description Language (WSDL) file
could not be generated for the
    com.ibm.example.HelloWorldServiceImpl
Web service implementation class because of the following error:

java.lang.Exception: A WSDL Definition could not be generated
    for the implementation class:
    com.ibm.example.HelloWorldServiceImpl
    at com.ibm.ws.websvcs.wsdl.WASWSDLGenerator.generateWsdl
    (WASWSDLGenerator.java:202)
    at org.apache.axis2.jaxws.description.impl.
    EndpointDescriptionImpl.generateWSDL
    ...

The WSWS7054E is a generic error that can be caused by a
number of reasons. In this case, the root cause is that
the JAX-WS runtime was not finding shared library JARs that
    the application depended upon.

The accompanying message might look like this:

     Other output of wsgen:
    ...WEB-INF\classes\com\ibm\sample\HelloWorldService.java:10:
    package com.example.shared does not exist
    import com.example.shared.Greeting;
                             ^

The following error might occur when a JAX-WS service
    application starts:

WSWS7027E: JAX-WS Service Descriptions could not be
correctly built because of the following error:
    javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException:
WSWS7054E: The Web Services Description Language (WSDL) file
could not be generated for the
    com.ibm.example.HelloWorldServiceImpl
Web service implementation class because of the following error:

    com.ibm.example.HelloWorldServiceImpl
    at com.ibm.ws.websvcs.wsdl.WASWSDLGenerator.generateWsdl
    (WASWSDLGenerator.java:202)
    at org.apache.axis2.jaxws.description.impl.
    EndpointDescriptionImpl.generateWSDL
    ...

The Web Services for Java EE specification does not require
JAX-WS applications to package WSDL files. When the JAX-WS
runtime detects such an application during startup, it
dynamically generates the WSDL from the application's
    annotation data.

The WSWS7054E is a generic error that can be caused by a
number of reasons. In this case, the application's JAX-WS
service endpoint implementation was indirectly referencing
    code in the <was_home>\plugins\com.ibm.ws.wsadie\marshall.jar
file. The root cause of the WSWS7054E error is that this JAR
file was missing from the classpath necessary for WSDL
    generation.

The accompanying message that might precede the WSWS7054E
error could may look like the following:

     Other output of wsgen:
     ...
     package com.ibm.etools.marshall.util does not exist

Problem conclusion

  • The JAX-WS runtime was changed to set the
    <was_home>\plugins\com.ibm.ws.wsadie\marshall.jar file in the
    classpath for generating WSDL files:

Note that PM20042 fixes only one out of several possible root
    causes behind the WSWS7054E error.

APAR PM20042 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.15 of WebSphere Application Server V7.0.
