Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) users * * of IBM Websphere Application Server V6.1 * * and v7.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The SIP container does not recover * * from exceptions thrown by the * * application during session attribute * * serialization * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** In a cluster environment, attributes of a SIP session are replicated between application servers in the cluster. Each attribute is written to an object stream before delivery to the backup container. The problem occurs when the code that serializes the attribute value throws an exception of type java.lang.Error (or one that extends java.lang.Error). The container does not catch such exceptions properly, and does not recover from this situation. Under specific timing conditions, this failure may cause the application server to stop processing future SIP calls.
Problem conclusion
The problem is fixed in the SIP container code - it now properly handles and recovers from this situation. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.1.0.33 and 7.0.0.13.
