Error description

Resource injection(EJB 3.0 annotations) in WebSphere application
server V7.0 does not work for startup Servlets.

You will get a NullPointerException when trying to reference
the injected resource.

Local fix

This problem happens only for servlets with load-on-startup
option. So, this can be avoided, by removing load-on-startup tag
for the failing servlets.

Webcontainer code is initializing the servlet before injection
targets are retrieved from the injection engine. As a result,
if servlet initialization is dependent upon an injected
resource, problems can occur.

Problem conclusion

Webcontainer code is modified to initialize servlet after
injection targets are retrieved.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
