Error description

  • Installation manager hangs when updating fix packs in
    WebSphere Application server 7.0 and following a hung thread
    reported in the javacore. Hang is caused by  detectprocess.sh
    from component(com.ibm.ws.detect.running.process.***.jar) which
    is trying to detect the running process.

    Before updating the current WebSphere Application Server to a
    new fix pack, Installation Manager calls the running process
    detect bundle to check whether or not there are running
    processes. The problem is that the bundle hangs on UNIX
    machines and never return a value back to Installation Manager.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The fix is to set time-out (5 minutes) in the running process
    detect bundle to make sure it will return a value within 5
    minutes.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 7.0.0.43.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
