Error description
Installation manager hangs when updating fix packs in WebSphere Application server 7.0 and following a hung thread reported in the javacore. **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Installation Manager hangs while * * updating fix packs in WebSphere * * Application Server v7.0 * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Before updating the current WebSphere Application Server to a new fix pack, Installation Manager calls the running process detect bundle to check whether or not there are running processes. The problem is that the bundle hangs on UNIX machines and never return a value back to Installation Manager.
Problem conclusion
The fix is to set time-out (5 minutes) in the running process detect bundle to make sure it will return a value within 5 minutes. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 7.0.0.43.
