APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Modifying the SSL configuration in the admin console under
  Security > SSL certificate and key management > SSL
  configurations
    Select a configuration
   then go to
        > Quality of protection (QoP) settings
  
  Changing the "Protocol" caused the  Messages: 'null' to appear
  at the top of the screen.
  
  
  The selected configuration was missing a "trustStore" causing a
  NullPointerException in the console code.
  

Local fix

• Add the missing trustStore to the respective configuration
  (e.g. NodeDefaultSSLSettings or whichever configuration
  receives the error)
  

Problem summary

• ****************************************************************
  * USERS AFFECTED:  All users of IBM WebSphere Application      *
  *                  Server V8.5 using the administrative        *
  *                  console to modify the SSL config.           *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Quality of protection settings      *
  *                      cannot be changed when the SSL          *
  *                      configuration does not contain a        *
  *                      keyStore or a trustStore.               *

  The console code tried to set parameters on the
  modifySSLConfig command for objects that didn't exist.  This
  caused a null pointer exception that would only display an
  null on the console.
  

Problem conclusion

• The console code did not check for a null trustStore or
  keyStore when creating the modifySSLConfig command.  The
  console now test for that and does not include those
  parameters if they do not exist.
  
  APAR PI37945 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Pack
  8.5.5.6 of WebSphere Application Server V8.5.
