Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A Generic Server might leave a          *
    *                      defunct process in the operating        *
    *                      system process list after it is         *
    *                      stopped or terminated.                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Generic server processes are launched from the node agent
    parent process.  When a process terminates it might stay in a
    "defunct" state in the system process list until the parent
    process terminates or retrieves it's exit status. The
    existence of a defunct process in the system process list is
    not necessarily harmful, but might consume some system
    resources.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A monitor thread is added to check the status of Generic Server
    processes so they will not linger as defunct processes.  It
    can take up to 5 minutes for such a defunct process to clear
    from the process list.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.37, 8.0.0.11 and 8.5.5.5  Please refer to the
